Utah Water Sports took a break from X-Dance to put on a show at their pro shop last Saturday. A bunch of the new Mastercraft boats were being showed off in their showroom while contestants rocked to their hearts content.
Spectators could check out the new boats and chat with Billy McKee about the new Mastercrafts and the great deals they had in the pre-boat show sale.
Winners of the Rock Band contest walked away with some great winnings, which included a Wake Surfboard, an Obrien Natural Wake Board and bindings and a Slingshot wake board and bindings.
Check out some of the pictures of the event!

The Big Winners!
As usual, Wake in the Woods tuned out to be a great contest. It got a bit breezy a few times, noticed only by the spectators who had to chase their canopies down the hill and into the water. The water, however, was not affected too much. A little rippley, but not bad at all, the whole day. I even heard a few say that this was the best water for a comp all year. It was a pretty good sized run which was entirely viewable from the seating area. Wake in the Woods is always a good time. Thanks to all the riders, friends and family, The Glovester for towing up the boat, dudes on the mic, judges, drivers, and Tim along with all who helped set up for putting on an awesome event.
A huge and special thanks from Tim to all those who contributed: Al’s Sporting Goods, Utah Watersports, Juniper Take Out, Camp Chef, Liquid Force, Skull Candy Reef, Spy, Anon, DC, Hyperlite, Smith, Lynn’s Audio & Video, Renegade Sports, Cache Honda Yamaha, GearGenius, Logo Shop, Straight Line, Red Bull, and everyone else that made this event possible. Major props to
WakeUtah for keeping wakeboarding in Utah cool and helping us spread the good word and love for the water.
(Special note from Dewey – Nice work from the
WakeUtah riders. Way to represent. That’s how to bring the awesome!)

Last year many of you turned out to the premier of Transgression at X-Dance, the movie was a hit, a great wake boarding flick! And X-Dance was a great venue for the movie too, the action sports film festival that runs the same time as the Sundance Film Festival. The X-Dance theme gave us an idea, why now ask wakeutah.com if they would host a contest for short films and have our community vote on the best films, the film with the highest votes gets an automatic entry at X-Dance. Little did we know, WakeUtah.com would be in our hands a few months later. So here we are, we have been in contact with the guys at X-Dance and they have given us their support for the idea. Now it’s up to the WakeUtah.com community, There are some great videos on our videos section, now is your chance to step into the film director role and submit your best short film for your chance to be in X-Dance!!!
Once your video has been uploaded, the community can vote on their favorites and the one with the highest votes will be submitted to our contact at X-dance and will be a part of the film festival.
That’s it, get all your wake boarding friends, family and neighbors on wakeutah.com to vote and upload their best video too. Good luck, I have seen some great films in our videos section and I know some of these films will be awesome!
All videos must meet the submission requirements set by X-Dance, see www.x-dance.com for more details.
Get your cameras rolling and fine tune your editing skills for this great opportunity!!! Submissions must be in before mid October.
X-Dance is January 17-21, 2009 in Salt Lake City.

If you’ve come to Wake in the Woods in the past, then you know they do things a bit differently than some of the other comps. They’re all about laid back, good times at the lake. The reason we all wakeboard is because it’s fun, no need to make it stressful. So if you’re looking for something a little bit different and a lot more fun, come check it out.

July’s featured rider is Ryan Webster, Ryan Webster has been on the scene wakeboarding for a few years and is always progressing, both himself and the sport. An eager rider who does it for the love of wakeboarding, Ryan makes residence in Delta, Utah where he lives on “The Res” with his family who are extremely supportive of not only his wakeboarding but the sport in general. I have been told that once “The Res” is thawed Ryan is out riding, as early as February, take a run off a dock start and finish with a clean run right back where he started.
Ryan competes at the Outlaw division in the IWA, and has placed in the top 3 at all Utah stops so far. The level of intensity that Ryan rides with is hard to match, and if his success is any indicator, Ryan will be going places in wakeboarding.
Dewey and I had the opportunity to go down to Delta recently and install the coolest rail we had in Ryan’s back yard. Ryan admitted that he hasn’t hit rails much, and this beast would lend lots of practice time, but only after a few hits on the 60 footer, Ryan was sliding the whole thing, spinning 180’s and gapping the top like he had been doing it all season.
Name – Ryan Webster
Age -20
Sponsors – Hyperlite, Marine Products, MOM and DAD
Board Set Up – Hyperlite Pulse with Byerly bindings
Hobbies other than wake sports – Duck hunting with my dog Whiskey
Biggest Accomplishments – Associates Degree, 2006 IWA Overall
Goals this Season – Consistently land toe and heel 7’s, crow mobe
Favorite Pro and Local Riders – Pro: AJ Racinelli, Rusty Malinoski. Local: Where to start? Colby Shelton, Mark Glover, Andrew Wallace, Kayden Tomlinson, Braxton Tomlinson, Colton Brockbank, Scott Bagley, Tyler Peterson, Bret Peterson.
Favorite Trick to watch and perform – Huge KGB
What is it about wakeboarding? – I owe it all to my parents to getting me into the sport, they support me in all I do. Wakeboarding is an escape from reality. When I am on the lake it is like time stops, haha and ask Colby Shelton or Andrew Wallace, I am in my own dream world when I am out on the boat. For me, wakeboarding is not about the contests or the moves you can throw, it is a way of life and sharing the sport with other people I think about wakeboarding more than anything else, it’s what gets me through the day.
What do you like about the local scene? – All the riders get along and help push each other to learn new things, the number one most important thing that I like is the fact that we are all friends out there and love doing the same thing. I like how Dewey has been helping Utah get into the wakeboard scene. He has already made a huge impact on Utah riders with rail/winch riding.
Who do you ride with? – I ride with just about anybody who is down, but on a normal day I ride by myself sad, huh? Where is the love?

Jeff Christian of Salt Lake City won third place in a contest put on by Liquid Force to design a new rail for the Texas Ski Ranch. Jeff submitted a design for a banked S Rail and scored himself 2 pairs of LF Board shorts! Nice work Jeff, and if you are reading this Jeff send us your design and we will be sure to post it on the site. Check out all the contest winners over on the Liquid Force Site.
